Ten Words of Comfort from Our Savior

Exodus 3:7-22

Exodus 3 gives a brief account of some of the circumstances that preceded GodÕs deliverance of the children of Israel from their captivity and bondage in Egypt. But we must not forget that these things were written Òfor our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hopeÓ (Rom. 15:4). ÒThey are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are comeÓ (1 Cor. 10:11). The One speaking in this passage is the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God our Savior. He specifically tells us ten things that ought to comfort and encourage all who trust him amid the storms of life.

  1. ÒI have surely seen the affliction of my peopleÓ (v. 7).
  2. ÒI have heard their cryÓ (v. 7).
  3. ÒI know their sorrowsÓ (v. 7).
  4. ÒAnd I am come down to deliver themÓ (v. 8).
  5. ÒCertainly, I will be with theeÓ (v. 12).
  6. ÒYe shall serve God upon this mountainÓ (v. 12).
  7. Here is the most powerful incentive possible to believe that it shall be so.—He who made these promises declares, ÒI Am That I AmÓ (v.14).
  8. ÒI will bring you up out of the afflictionÓ (v. 17).
  9. ÒYe shall not go emptyÓ (v. 21).
  10. ÒAnd ye shall spoil the EgyptiansÓ (v. 22).

ÒRejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ JesusÓ (Phil. 4:4-7).
